2021 Patriot Shoot A Smashing Success!
The 2021 Patriot Shoot saw 25 teams of shooters come out to support the event and our 2021 beneficiary – Save A Warrior. Participants enjoyed great weather, a delicious BBQ lunch prepared by Master BBQ chef David Waun, and exciting action during the general & gun raffles. There were several silent auction items to bid on, and participants had the ability to purchase raffle tickets to win a Harley Davidson motorcycle from the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association Chapter 12-1.
During the event opening participants got to hear personal, emotional stories from veterans Matthew Dowling and Tony Hernandez, both who discussed their battle with PTS and their life-changing experiences going through the Save A Warrior program. Their emotional words reminded us why the Patriot Shoot is an important fundraising event and why we do what we do. The list of trophy winners is shown in our Gallery
The Board of Directors of Central Ohio American Charities (COAC) would like to thank everyone involved with the Patriot Shoot: from the participants who support the event, to the volunteers who run the event, and the staff at the Cardinal Sporting Clays Center. From the Board of Directors at Central Ohio American Charities:
We are writing to provide an update on this year’s COAC Patriot Shoot originally scheduled for Saturday August 29, 2020. We have come to the difficult conclusion that we must cancel this year’s event, despite its significant fundraising power and appreciated opportunity for fellowship. The event itself would not be feasible, or quite honestly, very enjoyable with current COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing guidelines.
The Patriot Shoot is the primary fundraiser for Central Ohio American Charities:
- Because of this annual event, we were able to give $30,000 last year to Save A Warrior, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending the staggering suicide rate plaguing our veterans, active-duty military and first-responders.
- In total, we’ve raised more than $500,000 for the veteran-focused organizations we’ve supported since COAC’s founding in 2008, including The Resurrecting Lives Foundation, The Wounded Warrior Project, and Save A Warrior.
Although we will not be together in person this year, we hope you will still consider sending a tax-deductible donation which will again benefit our wounded veterans. As a plus, because we will not have the expenses of an actual event to deduct from your donation, the entire amount will go toward our important initiatives.
Please be assured that we remain committed to the next Patriot Shoot — our 13th sporting clays event — and we will keep you posted as we know more about the date and time. We thank you in advance for your continued support. Let us know if you have any questions and please send your valued donation today!

COAC Board Members Present $30,000 Check to Save A Warrior
On January 30, 2020, the Board of Directors of COAC visited the Staff Sgt. Dick Wood Warrior Village located in Heath, OH to present Save A Warrior (SAW) with a $30,000 donation. This donation was made possible by the great turnout and participant support at the 2019 Patriot Shoot held at the Cardinal Shooting Center in August 2019. The Board members were able to witness the closing session of an active “cohort” (the week-long SAW program). It was a very moving and emotional experience which reinforced the need to continue to support great organizations such as SAW and reminded the Board why we do what we do.
The Staff Sgt. Dick Wood Warrior Village is a 47-acre property which allows SAW to increase the number of veterans who participate in their life-saving program. This innovative, evidence-based program provides a powerful healing experience for active duty military, veterans and first responders who are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress. You can learn more about this excellent organization and donate to support by visiting www.saveawarrior.org.
